Are we products of our environment or products of our expectations? The Aftermath of "The Other Wes Moore.”

The question “Are we products of our environment or products of our expectations?” is very deep to understand in the first place. According to me, the explanation of the question is very poetic. People change with time and perceive their point of view toward the world, and the point of view they carry for the rest of their lives is directly affected by what their consciousness chooses. Either it’s the environment that they’ve been around, their peers, their family consequences; or their expectations, expectations with self, and expectations they carry with them. According to me, both of these can be looked at positively and negatively and the way one looks at it decides their fate in life.      Environment - a setting that heavily impacts the way you lead your life, especially after puberty. I come from India, and I’ve always been taught to be around people who are calm and focused even though I was the exact opposite of it. Now I understand that...

Power of music in shaping of life.

With its endless energy, music acts as a medium of communication that unites people from all backgrounds. Wes Moore's love of music is shown in "The Other Wes Moore; One Name, Two Fates" to be more than just a passing fancy; rather, it serves as a vital lifeline that helps him get through the difficulties of his turbulent life. For Wes, music becomes more than just a way to escape the brutal reality of poverty and crime; in his early years growing up in the Bronx, it becomes an essential survival mechanism. Hip-hop contributes to the definition of Wes Moore's identity by expressing the struggles and aspirations of his community and resonating with his life experiences through its lyrics. Well-known musicians like Nas, Tupac, and BIGGIE. serve as beacons of hope, providing consolation and inspiration when needed. Wes feels purposeful and linked to them through their music, which reassures him that he is not alone in his challenges. Through all of life's highs and ...

What advice do you give your siblings based on your mistakes in life?

Wes and Tony have a complicated relationship that is based on their divergent life experiences and decisions as well as their shared feelings of caring and worry. The older brother, Tony, has probably experienced his fair share of misfortunes and has even taken a few wrong turns. But such experiences have made him a person who loves education and is all too aware of the dangers of living on the streets. But Wes can be more drawn to the attraction of the streets because he hasn't completely understood the repercussions, because he's still influenced by his peers, or because he wants to make quick money. Tony is genuinely concerned when he tells Wes to stop sleeping on the streets and take his studies seriously. He doesn't want his younger brother to make the same errors that he or others have unintentionally made. Tony has personal experience with the ease with which one might succumb to the lures of the streets, including the pressure to fit in, the attraction of quick mo...

Is Higher Education Worth The Price?

On the internet, this topic has many bipolar opinions. Just like my brain, I couldn’t figure out what to write about this topic until I peeped into what was going on in my life. I am in the process of transferring and this is probably what makes my mind so confused about this topic. I’ll hold on to my opinion for now and I’d like to share some public opinion about this topic that I found on Reddit. Opinion 1: “Higher education is no longer about learning; it is a perceived means to climb the economic latter that has, by this point, been debunked relatively (college graduates still earn on average more than non-college graduates but the loan-to-income ratio no longer suffices).” Opinion 2: “As long as there are financial burdens attached, people will always seek income instead of learning for themselves, which is a vast, vast majority of people, even many “smart” people choose a major that can bring in the most income instead of what they are truly interested in.” Opinion 3: ...

Fast Food IS the New Tobacco

Keeping the natural theme of relating the topic of the discussion with my own experiences alive, I’ll write about how I went through the feeling and realized how “Fast Food IS the New Tobacco.” Before that, let’s see why people say that. According to people.com, “Ultra-processed foods Are as Addictive as Alcohol and Cigarettes”. The research this page shows states that “Food addiction was found in 14% of adults and 12% of children, as determined by the Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS).” Some researchers used statistics from over 200 studies across 3+ countries and found out that the amount of addiction people have towards fast food is to the level of addiction seen for other substances in adults, including 14% in alcohol and 18% in tobacco, and that the level of addiction is “unprecedented” for children. This is scary enough to know that this is the generation that the world will be in the hands of in the next few years.  Addiction is a negative word overall, and being addicted to ...

Is Pop Culture Good for Me?

Every coin has two sides, as we know. I can relate to this particular saying more than anyone. I am a rapper and I know what it takes to be a part of this interest. Music is something that saved my life. Not only mine but also my friends' lives, who also rap. I was on the verge of depression twice in my life so far but in many ways, music took me away from it. I chose to give back to the thing that saved me and started rapping. I might not be the one who dropped the first Desi Hip Hop track, it was my brother, but I am definitely the now who's putting my stuff on the map. As I am a part of pop culture itself, I can not keep my opinions about it to myself. As a musician, I pour my heart out on my verses, which is a way for me to vent out as well. I am a very emotional guy so I need to filter my thoughts sometimes. But of course, I would love this to be my career and I hope that my dream of rapping in front of a crowd comes true someday. But there is a negative side to this. ...
